Progress...progress

On a roll...I've been working on several items and making progress!  Very happy!  The toddler sweater is all done, I have the buttons, I have the ribbon...I just have to put it together.  I'm going to my LYS this week so she can give me tips on putting it together.  I'm thrilled that I have finally completed my first sweater.  It was a very easy pattern with worsted yarn so it worked up very quickly.

I have been working on a pair of socks.  Its been years since I knit up socks and I only finished one pair....let's not talk about how many are buried in area 51!

As you can see I love to knit outside with my morning coffee.  The sun rise is getting later and later...not so easy to knit out side at 5 AM.  A month ago the deck light wasn't needed.  Of course this picture was taken on the weekend a little later in the morning.

I also couldn't resist a new KAL...Brickless with the Knitabulls podcast group.

I'm loving this pattern.  Its working up very fast.  It calls for DK but I had worsted.  It is New England...a little extra warmth won't hurt me.  I've already made up my mind that I'm going to make another one when the first one is done.  I have been practicing my continental knitting with this project.  I'm doing very well with the stitches.  The continental style is great because I knit much faster but my gauge is really loose.  In most cases I have to go down two needle sizes.

I've been setting goals and deadlines on getting things done and its working out very well and I'm seeing progress.

Too little time and so much on the needles!

So I've been wanting to start blogging again but I always find something gets in the way...so here we go let's see if I can make this happen more frequently.  I am currently trying this out on my iPad thinking it might happen more often if I can update from there.  I have my iPad with me most of the time and I also use it to update projects on Ravelry.  Of course I have let my Ravelry project updates lag behind too but not as bad as my blogging.  Some of you may know that I also have a cooking blog with my son.  I haven't been updating that either.

If you are looking to catch up with me on Ravelry I'm Mrsderv and would be very happy to connect with you.

Okay so now that I have made my excuses...not really... let's get onto the knitting!!!

Socks - I cast on a pair of socks because they are so light weight.  We have had such hot weather that my larger projects are just too much.  I've only finished one other pair of socks and it was years ago.  I don't really know my limitations so I'm attempting 2 socks on 1 needle.  The pattern is called Twilight and the yarn is Happy Feet from Plymouth yarns.
When I bought the yarn to start my new light weight project I talked myself into buying a new project bag I have been eyeing at my local yarn store.

I LOVE the colors and its a great bag too.  It has pockets on the inside and one pocket has a zipper.

If you know me then you know I never have just one project going.  I have been watching the knitabulls video podcast.  Diane came back from SSK and started the Brickless KAL.  So of course I had to get on board.  I did manage to find the yarn in my stash BUT I don't have quite enough so I will have to buy more yarn.  I am using my awesome yarn bowl which I love!

I'm also working on a sweater for my Grand Niece (how can I be old enough to say that).  I'm so excited about it because its my first sweater and its basically done.  I need to buy so ribbon for the button band, sew up the seams and block and its done.  I'm trying to decide if I will wait and give it to her for Christmas or if it will be a just because I love you gift.  We shall see!  Believe it or not I haven't taken one picture of it yet so I can't post one.

Let me see I'm also working on a color affection shawl but it got to heavy sitting in my lap and I'm really bored with it.  I have a pair of duffers on the needles that are about 80% done but they are 100% wool and with the humidity they are no fun to knit.

I do like to play around with crochet so I've been working on a pattern for cupcake coasters...here is my progress so far.
The first one was a free pattern, the second one is with my modifications.  I like the second one but they both work great as coasters.

Wow I probably could come up with many more items to list but honestly these are the items I have spent the most amount of time on lately.  There have been so many times that I have wanted to write a blog post but didn't because I haven't been posting so now that I have broken the ice and broken the time block I hope you will hear more from me.

Happy Knitting!

Been a long time!

I started this blog a long time a go to help me control my "Yarn ADD obsessions"....well maybe not control them but at least keep track of them!

Wow I just looked at the date of my last post OMG!!!

Summer accomplishment!! I participated in my first KAL. It's the Summer Solstice Mystery Shawl from wendyknits.net. This is my first real lace shawl too. It needs 15 stitch markers if you are going to use them. And yes I sooo need to use stitch markers. I can't just use plan boring stitch markers....no... I have to make some. Here are my stitch markers ...

Now before I began I actually did a swatch (something I'm not very good about doing).

Now the instructions are for you to create nupps (never heard of these before) or beads. I decided on going with the nupps because I thought my yarn would look good with nupps. They are used in patterns to add texture to your pattern. Mine came out okay but I saw a lot of people create ones much better than mine.

My Finished Shawl !!!!!!

Finished Felted Bag

Here is the felted bag finished. I've been using it for awhile and I don't like how I sewed the snap so I will be fixing it (probably when it finally comes undone) and black wouldn't be my first choice next time for felting. The black picks up every piece of fuzz. Other than that it is really cool and I have made a little bag to carry on and ends in the inside I just have to put the finishing touches to it. I used my left over yarn...will post that soon.

First felted bag

My first felted bag before it has been washed. Only took me two years to finish...I kepted working on it and then putting it down...kinda like Alex's sweater. The next post will be of the finished product.

My first sweater....why can't I finish it.

okay so I'm trying to knit my son's first sweater...I bought the yarn over a year ago and have come up with every excuse in the book. This is my progress as of Thanksgiving. I'm going to take some more pictures to show my progress since then...yes I have made progress but I've also started about 1/2 dozen other projects. I just seem to have a mental block. Not sure if its the idea of making a sweater or this particular sweater. Of course the way my son is growing he may grow out of it before I finish it. I was thinking if I posted these pictures it might push me to get working on it again.

Hat Attack II

Hat Attack II http://hat-attack.com/ . I was officially hit by my assassin at 12:00 PM Saturday, September 20, 2008. As you can see my attempt didn't have a chance. My assassin lives on the other side of the country and managed to get the hat knitted and mailed from the west coast to the east coast in 4 days.... my target weasleywoman05 gets a few day more while my hat makes it to the west coast and is finished by NutellaNutterson who as of this moment appears to be still alive. Good Luck to them both!
