Hat Attack II

Hat Attack II http://hat-attack.com/ . I was officially hit by my assassin at 12:00 PM Saturday, September 20, 2008. As you can see my attempt didn't have a chance. My assassin lives on the other side of the country and managed to get the hat knitted and mailed from the west coast to the east coast in 4 days.... my target weasleywoman05 gets a few day more while my hat makes it to the west coast and is finished by NutellaNutterson who as of this moment appears to be still alive. Good Luck to them both!

Hat for Jack

This hat was so much fun to make. The pattern is called "Colour Me Bright"(#108) from Cabin Fever. Great pattern for scraps and creativity. I decided on the colors for each pattern as I went. I have started a second hat for my own son. The pattern called for wool that you dyed with kool-aid. I had scraps I wanted to use up but I am going to try dying some wool with kool-aid at a late time.

Let them eat cake!

Calories Zero, Fiber 100%. My first attempt at knitted cupcake. I used the pattern from the blog "Blah, Blah, Blahhhg" with a few modifications from another Ravelry knitter and then a few modifications of my own. The frosting is made out of Caron Charming in Raspberry. I thought it looked like frosting with sprinkles.

I think it would be neat to fill a whole cake plate with knitted cupcakes for the center of the table and see how long it takes people to realize how low cal they really are. This was a fun little knitting project but the yarn I used for the frosting was a bit difficult at the end when you start K2tog.

NEXT

On to my next pair of socks. The yarn is really red but doesn't show well in the picture. These are socks for my son and my first attempt at two at a time. The pattern is from the Knitting Circles around Socks by Antje Gillingham. The pattern is called "Cabled Corn" and its being knit with Reynolds Soft Sea Wool. Yes its 100% wool so I won't be able to machine wash but I really wanted red and so did my son. I wonder how long it will be before I accidently felt these...

They are done!

Tada! They are done. I think I was suppose to cast off with a larger needle so and I have a little cosmetic work to do on the toes. I need to work on my casting when I'm doing socks from the toe up.

I have started my next pair of socks but I wanted to get these finished.

Socks, socks, socks

I'm loving making socks even though I haven't finished a pair I can wear yet. Almost!!! I just finished the first sock and I only have an inch left on the second sock. YEA!! This sock thing is addicting, I have another pair on the needles (one is done) and I have also started knitting two at a time.

My sister came down a few weeks ago and she picked out some great sock yarn. I'm going home this weekend and hopefully we will have time to get her started on her first pair.

If all goes well I will be wearing my new socks on my trip home.

Pincushion

Here is my first attempt at making a pincushion. This was a fun quick project. This is made using three yo-yo's. The pincushion itself is a nice size but I think the other two yo-yo's get a bit lost. I think I would adjust the sizes. I also think a larger button might look nice but this was the largest one I had in my stash.

I like pincushions and have a few odd ones, these would also be nice for some crafty relatives I have. I've been meaning to make these but procrastinated so I joined a pincushion swap to give me the little push I needed to try the patterns I have. I have a few more weeks before my swap is due so I may do a little more experimenting before I decide what my swap partner is going to get.

Kitty Swap

I received my kitty from the April Kitty Swap, the name is Very Berry "VB". He is very cute. My son has claimed it but is letting me keep it on my desk for company. I'm going to skip the May swap so that I can make one for my son but I will definately enter another kitty swap. Its been fun to look at yarn think about how cute it would be as a kitty.

Kitty Swap from Ravelry.

Knitted kitty swap - body, tail and head. The kitty's name is Petunia Purrfect. The pattern called for plain yarn but I wanted to see if I could find something that would look like a calico kitty. I have found another skein of yarn to make another kitty that I think will make a cute kitty. I should be finishing up tonight so that I can ship out to the recipient tomorrow. Here is the link to the pattern http://geobabe.livejournal.com/195349.html
and the swap group on Ravelry is called "knitted kitty swap"

Sock on circular needls

This is my second sock class project. Knitting socks on circular needles, opal self striping yarn. I need to knit up to my heel my Tuesday night (I'm not that fast and I still have a few inches to go). This is the progress I have made after ripping out once - I increased too many before knitting and the sock was going to be way too big.

Originally I was suppose to knit two socks at once but no one else in the class was doing it and this is only my second sock so I chickened out -- maybe my next sock. I was thinking I would try it with a pair of socks for my son.

This was my first figure eight cast with 12 loops. It does fit but my next pair I might try more loops so that it looks more rounded.

Completed Pot Holder

My very first felted project. It took a lot more washes and the blue didn't felt as well as the white and red. I have a pocket book that is almost finished and needs to be felted so I thought I would start with something small to get over the thought of washing all that knitting and not ruining it.

Felted Pot Holder

Bramble Stitch Lacy Shawl made out of Bernat Bamboo first finished project of 2008!

Off to a great start! Knitting yes! Blog no!

Okay so I thought I would use this more and as you can see I haven't. I intended at a minimum to send the blog to my sister. Hi Ginny so she could see what I'm up to but as you can see I have posted nothing and have sent the link to no one...nice start.

I have actually finished a few items even though I haven't posted them. I finished a scarf, not sure who I'm going to give it too I just wanted to try the yarn and the stitch. My husband wanted a hat so I started and finished that in February. I'm taking a sock class and also working on a monster for my son, another hat for my husband and I have about a dozen items at various stages on the needles.

I have also participated in two swaps, a kitchen cozy swap and a new projects swap. Next month I'm participating a a kitty swap as well.

Its a new year!

It's New Years and seems like the best time to start something new. I have never created a blog before so bear with me as I get things set up and start posting. My goal for this blog is to document my knitting. I am self taught and have been knitting for about two years. My stash and my UFO's are growing so I thought that I would use this tool to document and almost guilt me into finishing some of the growing projects I have piled up. I would also like to connect with other knitters with the same obsession(s).

Happy knitting in 2008!
